“Overall, excellent workshop. Sasha is a terrific teacher and was very patient with endless questions.”

-2013 UM College Park workshop

“Thanks for the wonderful workshop. I learned a lot.”

-2013 UM College Park workshop

“Great workshop. I learned a great deal. The pace was slower than I would have liked at times, however, that also gave me the time to experiment and become even more familiar with the topics. Your instruction was excellent – patient and clear. It’s hard to cover too much in just a couple days but I walked away with a great base to work from. I look forward to future workshops and hopefully more advanced workshops. Thanks again.”

“Sasha is a patient teacher. He answers all kind of questions during the workshops. I highly recommend his workshops.”

-2013 UM College Park workshop

“Overall, the class was very very good and the material well presented, never boring. I hope the instructor will teach more courses on R perhaps with somewhat different emphasis.”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Overall, it was very good workshop. I not only learned the R system and applications, but also realize how to review by myself. I did read “R in a Nutshell” by myself. The books is also well organized, but the data set was not quit from biological data. On the other hand, Sasha used the biological data to apply, which was a great primer to learn R. I was very motivated to learn further after I finish this workshop. I really appreciate for Sasha’s patience.”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“I was only able to attend the one day of the seminar, but found it to be incredibly helpful! I learned some really great tips! I really appreciate how you instruct participants on how to find resources and troubleshoot. Thank you!”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Overall, I found this workshop to be really useful, I had used R in one class previously, but I feel like I have a much broader feel for some useful tools.”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Overall, the course was very good. I would have been happy to take another 2-3 days of it. It was just what I needed and I will recommend it to colleagues if you come back. I’m guessing the workbook will be a resource that I will use for at least the next 5 years.”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Overall, AMAZINGLY helpful. Not sure how I found out about the course, but I’m so glad I did!”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“When signing up for the course, I considered myself to be of beginning-level proficiency–I’ve taken courses on multivariate and hierarchical models in R, and I use R for my own data analysis, though I’ve always felt like I jumped right into modeling, and missed out on the basics. I have no previous experience with programming in other languages and often find that I don’t fully understand each element of the code that I write (what it does, how it fits into the bigger picture of R ‘grammar’). I’ve often felt that as a result, I write code that is very inefficient. The course did a good job of filling in the basics for me–I have a much clearer understanding of the building blocks of the R language, and feel more confident in my ability to apply them to learning new packages.”

“I paid my own registration fee and would gladly do it all over — well worth the cost!”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Really useful workshop. Great instructor. I liked doing the exercises because it gave me a chance to think through my own problems and certain ways to solve them. By the end I was feeling very confident in my ability to understand R better and when I didn’t, knowing where to look for help.”

-2012 UC Davis workshop

“Thank you very much for such a wonderful course! I really learn a lot through the three-day session.”

-2012 Georgetown University workshop

“Thank you so much Sasha!!!
The R workshop was FANTASTIC!!!!! Thank you so much for all of your help!!!!!!”

-2012 Georgetown University workshop

“It’s been very helpful, although the time is very limited and there is a lot of stuff. But I have got much out of the workshop and look forward to using R to analyze my own data.”

-Georgetown University graduate student, 2012

“Great workshop, I learned a lot about how to use R. I liked the workbook and will continue to use it as a reference. . . Thanks for all of your hard work!”

-Georgetown University graduate student, 2012

“Overall, I got a lot out of the course, even though I was familiar with much of the material already.”

-Georgetown University postdoc, 2012

“I think the workshop overall was great.”

-Georgetown University graduate student, 2012

“[T]he workbook will be an incredibly valuable tool. Thank you!!”

-Georgetown University graduate student, 2012

“The workbook provides information on virtually anything you want to do with R, which is wonderful.”

-Georgetown University Professor, 2012

“I attended a two-day Data Analysis Workshop in 2010. The workshop was my first experience with data analysis in R. By the end of the workshop I had what I believe was a functional understanding of how to use R for data analysis, I had a better understanding of its capabilities as an analytical and graphics tool, and just as important I left with the ability to work independently.

Sasha is knowledgeable in all things R, and he provides a fantastic original companion workbook that has become my first source for analytical and graphics methods. In addition to his R experience Sasha is an attentive instructor; he brought many interesting examples and kept the topics relevant to the audience to ensure that the workshop maintained what felt like a comfortable pace.

In 2012 I had the privilege to work on a project that hired Sasha as an modeling consultant in R. His proficiency with R amazed me a second time, but more impressive was the ease and speed with which he disassembled and solved the important problems of the larger task! Plus, on several occasions we added new requirements to the project during our weekly webchat and Sasha had new prototypes to test within 24 hours. I remain pleased with the product, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with Sasha again soon.”

-University of Vermont graduate student, 2012

“[The workbook] is an excellent resource. I find it much more helpful than the R manual.”

-University of Maryland postdoc, 2012

“Thanks for the great workshop. I learned so much and am anxious to use R for upcoming analyses. . .”
-University of Maryland professor, 2012

“[T]hanks for a great workshop! I think it went very well, even with a lot of R neophytes. Your workbook will be a really valuable resource as we all go to try out what we’ve learned on our own data…”

-University of Maryland graduate student, 2012

“Thanks for all your efforts in the R workshop. You were a great instructor. I started with little to no R knowledge or experience. Although I feel somewhat overwhelmed by R (which there is no way around that) I now have a much better feel for what R can do. With the instruction and tools you provided, and lots of practice on my part, I should be able to use R in my work.”

-University of Maryland Professor, 2012

“[T]hanks for the course, it was immensely helpful.”

-2012 University of Maryland workshop

“The instructor was very helpful and professional. The instructor worked to give all students proper time and offered additional explanation whenever necessary. I would recommend this workshop to others.”

-2012 University of Delaware workshop

“Fantastic workshop, it was very helpful. Some sections were covered a little quickly, but that is understandable considering the time constraints. The workbook explains things very well, and I definitely plan on using this program in the future.”

-2012 University of Delaware workshop

“Thanks, it was helpful and the workbook will be a great resource.”

-2011 University of Southern Mississipi workshop

“Great workbook, and Sasha you did a great job keeping everyone together and challanging everyone regardless of prior skill. I wouldn’t hesitate to take a similar workshop again.”

-2010 University of Vermont workshop

“I had been using R for quite a while and found the course to be very helpful. I see now that I had some significant gaps in my knowledge and will now be able to write much cleaner, more readable code. I also was uncomfortable making plots of my work in R, and now have the base skills to know what to do and where to find information when I need it.”

-2010 University of Vermont workshop

“Excellent job, the workbook is an extremely helpful tool in conjunction with the lectures. Thank you.”
